Creating Our Planet Exhibition
(with Glasgow Goes Green)

Communications
January 2022 - February 2022

Creating Our Planet Exhibition
The theme of ‘Creating Our Planet’ was chosen to highlight the shortcomings of COP26, as well as the need for creative solutions to sustainability and the importance of the arts in representing and engaging with the climate crisis. The exhibition aimed to demonstrate the need for a creative, interdisciplinary and multifaceted approach to the climate crisis, as well as providing an inclusive, educational and inspiring space for people to engage with the issues presented.
My Role
My role was to design the logo, posters and social media graphics for the exhibition, as well as design and keep up the website.
To represent the theme of 'Creating Our Planet', we decided to use images of O'Neill cylinders, since they are a created version of our planet. It brings to mind the 'Spaceship Earth' trope, which is often used to highlight resource scarcity and the need to maintain Earth's systems.I really enjoyed putting together the promotional materials for this project, including a set of postcards with different images to collect. They were very popular and included a QR code for the website.

COP26 Youth Hub
The Youth Hub was a space for workshops and skill sharing, but also for rest and relaxation during the COP26 Youth Hub. We provided a space for local students and visiting youth activists during a time when climate burnout, fatigue and anxiety are likely to be rife. We held workshops on campaign skills, climate change and mental health, jargon busting and more.
We also ran a full roster of online events for activists across the world, because we knew that many who care about the planet couldn't be there. My Role
My role was to design the logo, posters and social media graphics for the COP26 Youth Hub, as well as design and keep up the website.
During the COP, it was part of my role to keep the website updated as workshops continued to be booked in. I also created timetables and flyers with the new information. I created graphics to advertise workshops and worked with university groups and What's On Glasgow to promote them. The Branding It was my first time designing a logo for something big, but I gave it my best shot. I felt that the cone represented the youthful and playful anti-establishmentism that is such a part of Glasgow's soul. For those who don't know, cones are often placed atop the heads of statues in Glasgow, and the image of the Duke of Wellington with his cone has become iconic, appearing in Lonely Planet's top 10 most bizarre monuments. After spending tens of thousands of pounds the council gave in to the cone, making this a story that both demonstrates the Glaswegian sense of humour and showcases their belief in the power of people.Cones are sometimes used as a warning sign, but at other times they can be used to guide people to a destination. All in all, we felt that it was a suitable representation of what we wanted to achieve.

Glasgow University Environmental and Sustainability Team
GUEST

Communications
August 2021 - Now

I currently manage the communications for the Glasgow University Environmental and Sustainability Team (GUEST). My role is to educate both staff and students about the actions of our sustainability team, through creating graphics and publications.GUEST's Role
From our perspective as both student and staff, the GUEST team are able to enact serious change, both within the student body and university policy.
Journalism at COP
Over the past few years, an incredible youth network has sprung up across the globe. We’re well aware that thousands of these young climate activists will be unable to make it to COP, whether that’s due to the high financial or carbon cost. By providing daily updates on both COP and also the grassroots projects springing up around it, we hope to keep these members of our community in the loop and involved.
By highlighting important online events we hope to bring them into the action here when possible, and bring them the need-to-knows from events when it’s not.Wee Green Guide
Navigating life as a new student or in a new city can be overwhelming, but it can also be a wonderful time of discovery.
My hope with the Wee Green Guide was to help make students transition as easy as possible. Hopefully, it also showed that ‘going green’ doesn’t just benefit the planet, but can make your day-to-day life cheaper and more fulfilling.

Please note that I revamped the colour scheme of GUEST after Freshers Week 2021. The Wee Green Guide is using the old brand guide.

'Climate Migration' in Climate Adaptation: Accounts of Resilience, Self-Sufficiency and Systems Change

Author
June 2020 - Now

Blurb
Where is the world really heading, and what can we do about it?
This book, edited by the Arkbound Foundation, takes an unflinching look at climate change – drawing upon the latest data to analyse what the next decades hold in store. With atmospheric CO2 at unprecedented levels and insufficient action being taken to prevent a rise in temperatures above 2 degrees centigrade, we are not just looking at significant disruption but the possibility of societal collapse. For the first time ever, the magnitude of this challenge is faced head-on, with avenues to truly address it presented. Case studies and models from 16 authors around the world show ways that we can build adaptation and resilience, as well as what ‘zero emissions’ really mean.My Role
My role began as a researcher with Arkbound. It gave me a chance to build on the foundation of knowledge about migrants that I had built during a summer research seminar at Johannes Gutenberg University.
Over time I discovered the depth of the issue here in the UK. Through interviews with locals I began to compare the situation in a UK town called Fairbourne with the more well-known victims of rising sea levels in Kiribati. My goal was to highlight the variety of different needs those at risk from sea-level rise can have, first-and-foremost among them communication and agency.

The World + 3

Editor-in-Chief
June 2020 - October 2021

The World + 3 is a combination of an academic journal and student zine. Using simple, accessible language combined with a peer review and referencing system, students from across the UK have come together to create an exploration of current climate adaptation trends that everyone can understand.

Glasgow University Walking Society

President
May 2019 - May 2021

While the president I generally created the content for our social media pages. We created a colour scheme which we carried on through all of our campaigns.

The website was used as a place to collect together the walks we had planned. This, along with the sample walk provided, were also designed by myself.
